“Be strong, and enter into your own body; for there your foothold is firm. Consider it well. O my heart! Go not elsewhere! Kabir says: Put all imaginations away, and stand fast in that which you are.”

—Kabir (1440-1518) One Hundred Poems

Qigong

Madrone TreeQigong is an ancient Chinese self-healing art and energy cultivation system that uses a series of gentle, focused exercises for the mind and body. The system combines slow Tai Chi-like movements, breath work, static postures, self-massage, visualization and meditation to enhance the flow of qi—vital energy or life energy—throughout the body, increasing overall quality of life and improving flexibility and immune function.

Qigong as Portal to Awareness

The practice of Qigong enables the honing of the usually scattered mind into a focused mind, helping to rediscover one’s natural energy, harmony and wholeness.

Salt Spring Island Retreat Day

Radiant Spring Retreat – A Day of new beginnings with Qigong, Reflection, Writing

Facilitated by Purna Ma and Lorraine Gane, poet/writer/teacher/editor (www.lorrainegane.com)

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Cost: Early registration (payment by April 5) is $89 (includes vegetarian lunch);
registration after April 5 is $99

Place: Art Barn, 150 Suffolk Road, Salt Spring Island

During this time of burgeoning growth and blossoming, we’ll gather to celebrate our radiance with gentle meditative practices to still the mind, replenish the body, and open untapped reservoirs of nourishment and creativity. Along with gentle movement and breathing, we’ll engage in writing practices to express what’s wishing to emerge on the page. The day will offer plenty of opportunity for reflection on the inspiration awaiting us as we embrace heart-felt connection, joyous unfolding, harmony, and deep renewal in the exuberant energies of spring. (No writing or Qigong experience is necessary.)

Personal Creative/Healing Retreats on Salt Spring

Salt Spring is home to a plethora of writers, artists, and crafts people of all kinds who have found the island a sanctuary for deep creativity and healing.

A new program guided by local writers, artists, musicians, and those in the healing arts will make use of the island’s many talents and resources to support off-islanders in personal creative weekend and week-long retreats.

Retreatants stay in a self-contained cottage overlooking St. Mary’s Lake. Mornings might be spent writing, painting or in other artistic pursuits, or meeting with mentors in one-on-one consultations to support a work in progress, the exploration of new creative mediums or deeper creativity (i.e. releasing creative blocks).

Afternoons offer a wide-range of choices, including touring the island’s artists’ studios, visiting local galleries and bookstores, hiking the island’s many trails, and visiting the famous Saturday market for one-of-a-kind crafts, organic breads and vegetables or other locally made products.

In addition to myself (Qigong, Tai Chi and meditation), participating mentors include poet, writer, coach, and editor Lorraine Gane (www.lorrainegane.com), energy healer and craniosacral therapist Cathie Cunningham (www.saltspringcottageresort.com), singer/musician Oona McOuat (www.oonamcouat.com), and painter Lisa Lipsett (www.creativebynature.org).

To book your stay at the Cottage Resort, go to www.saltspringcottageresort.com . Artists/practitioners can be contacted individually for one-on-one sessions or you can contact me and I’ll refer you on.
